- Creates strategic and project-level design content for design and business leadership teams.
- Provide advice on strategic design processes and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Typically handles multiple projects of differing scope and complexity within one or more business units.
- Identifies and promotes self-initiated brand/packaging design programs: demonstrating the ability to articulate business strategies and impact and translates to compelling design solutions.
- Acts as a senior individual contributor as appropriate to the design process.
- Delivers design content as an individual contributor in support of project/business goals
- Develops content for major design projects of complex scope in support of functional marketing/business plans, organizational plans and 3M's reputation and brand strategy
- Identifies, plans, recommends, develops content and completes major branding/design programs leading to innovative applications having significant impact on the business
- Leads cross-functional teams through an inspiring design journey
- Creates commercial advantage through activities in one or more of the following areas: (a) applying new technology in innovative branding / packaging concepts, demonstrating feasibility; (b) taking initiative to develop new, thought provoking concepts; (c) providing significant support to the supporting business to expand opportunities and reduce risks; (d) synthesize opportunities and technical solutions to create a commercial advantage
- May stimulate or develop major innovations in partnership with the business
- Provides design training, instruction and/or mentoring and coaching to others in the 3M Design as well as other functional personnel on design related issues and competencies. May be assigned leadership responsibilities for tasks and/or people on an organizational basis.
- Maintains a very high level of brand design-related knowledge, including current trends, design theories, methods, processes and/or issues. May have specifically defined area of expertise. Develops and ensures knowledge and expertise are understood, communicated, and available for use by the 3M Design personnel
- Continues professional development by handling project and process assignments that require developing more detailed understanding of design processes, industry best practices, and related information
- Performs all duties in support of 3M Design expectations and responsibilities as well as any agreed upon business unit expectations
Basic/Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree
- Minimum seven (7) years combined work experience in graphic design, brand design, packaging design or another design field.
- Preferred Qualifications: Master's Degree in design strategy, brand management, graphic design, design research or related design-centric field.
