Communications Specialist

The Girls Scouts of Minnesota and Wisconsin River Valleys are currently accepting applications for a regular, full-time communications specialist, based out of Saint Paul, MN. This position will support membership and revenue growth through communications strategies and tactics, including print publications, storytelling, writing, editing, design, production, and online and social communications that effectively communicate and translate the Girl Scouts' value proposition and enhance and protect its brand reputation.

What You'll Accomplish:

  • Develop compelling, objective-driven written and visual content for a variety of communications products across multiple platforms
  • Serve as writer, editor, and proofreader
  • Participate in community engagement on social media platforms
  • Support the development and maintenance of the council website
  • Conduct independent research using council resources, documents, websites, and one-on-one interviews with staff, members and volunteers to gather information needed for content development
  • Work closely with the marketing communications team to support communications, content strategy, and prospect and member engagement strategies; when appropriate, assist with crisis or other communication efforts
  • Articulate River Valleys' desired image and position to all constituencies, both internal and external
  • Ensure that communications by River Valleys' staff and volunteers are consistent in branding, messaging and visual representation and in alignment with standards established by GSUSA


What You'll Need:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Desired majors include communications, public relations, journalism, marketing, English, or related field; or relevant work experience
  • Two years of professional experience preferred
  • Exceptional writing, reporting, and storytelling skills
  • Experience with digital media, tools, applications, and platforms, including web, social and mobile, to meet communications objectives
  • Demonstrated attention to detail
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills
  • Excellent technical skills with Microsoft Office; experience with digital media tools, applications and platforms, including web, social and mobile
  • Experience with production, image, and video editing including tools such as Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, and Premier, or similar design and production software
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed, including some evenings and weekend
  • Access to personal transportation on a regular basis for business travel, valid driver's license and proof of insurance
